Bactroban (mupirocin) is an antibiotic that prevents bacteria from growing on your skin. Bactroban topical (for use on the skin) is used to treat skin infections such as impetigo or a "Staph" infection of the skin.
Do not stop treatment without permission of your doctor even if you feel better. Avoid application of the cream on eyes, nose, moth and lips. In case the medication gets in the areas wash them with water. Signs of improvement appear in 3-5 days. If you don’t see any improvement you should contact your doctor.
Do not use Bactroban if you are allergic to mupirocin, other components of the cream, or have any other allergies. Inform your doctor if you have any kidney diseases (because it can contain polyethylene glycol which affects kidneys). In case you are pregnant this medication can be used only if it is clearly needed.
You should not use Bactroban cream or ointment if you are allergic to mupirocin. Do not use Bactroban on a child without medical advice. The cream should not be used on a child younger than 3 months old. The ointment may be used on a child as young as 2 months old.
Possible side effect
Serious side effects are not common nevertheless if you experience unusual skin irritation, itching, blistering, itching, redness, peeling, dryness stop using the medicine and inform your doctor.
Avoid usage of other topical medications on the same areas as Bactroban.
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose is not expected to be dangerous. If you consider that you took too much of this medications inform your doctor
Store your medicines at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
